Strange Roots: you can go home again.

My July 2026 exhibit on Monhegan Island, Strange Roots, is a collection of photographs depicting vague memories reshaped by the pull between past and present — tangled, twisted, complicated, and rooted somewhere between myth and memory. These images represent experiences that have both haunted and fascinated me growing up on Monhegan Island. Inspired by the gauzy, muted atmospheres and aesthetics of some of my favorite Wyeth paintings the work created for this show conjures dreamlike recollections and explores themes of faith, death, isolation, and the wonder of coming back to a place I still call home.

See It Through Your Heart

Sierra takes about 15-20 beats before she leaps into the green-black water below. Clustered behind the empty propane tanks there is a group of young men smoking pot. She emerges in an intimate tangle of pink lacy fabric. Exhilarated, my breath catches as if I had leapt in with her. I came up for air, and I knew we nailed it. I don’t even remember taking the photos.

ISLAND {HUMAN} NATURE : Photography Exhibit with Cara Dolan

The work I’ve selected for this show centers on humans within their island environments. Captured through informal portrait sessions, these images were taken in moments when my subjects seemed to have shed self-awareness and entered a state of ease. As a result, the portraits carry a dream-like quality—evoking intimacy, stillness, and presence.
